A Linear Algorithm for Edge-Face Coloring Series-Parallel Graphs

چکیده
Let G be a series-parallel graph. In this paper, we present a linear algorithm of constructing an oriented binary decomposition tree of G. We use it to find 33 unavoidable subgraphs of G. Based on these 33 avoidable subgraphs, we can determine the edge-face chromatic number, denoted by χef (G), of G where G is 2-connected and Δ(G) = 5. This completes the literature of determining χef (G) for 2-connected series-parallel graphs.

A Linear Algorithm for Edge-Coloring Series-Parallel Multigraphs
Many combinatorial problems can be efficiently solved for series]parallel multigraphs. However, the edge-coloring problem of finding the minimum number of colors required for edge-coloring given graphs is one of a few well-known combinatorial problems for which no efficient algorithms have been obtained for series]parallel multigraphs. This paper gives a linear algorithm for the problem on seri...
متن کاملA practical algorithm for [r, s, t]-coloring of graph
Coloring graphs is one of important and frequently used topics in diverse sciences. In the majority of the articles, it is intended to find a proper bound for vertex coloring, edge coloring or total coloring in the graph. Although it is important to find a proper algorithm for graph coloring, it is hard and time-consuming too. In this paper, a new algorithm for vertex coloring, edge coloring an...
متن کاملAcyclically 3-Colorable Planar Graphs
In this paper we study the planar graphs that admit an acyclic 3-coloring. We show that testing acyclic 3-colorability is NP-hard, even for planar graphs of maximum degree 4, and we show that there exist infinite classes of cubic planar graphs that are not acyclically 3-colorable. Further, we show that every planar graph has a subdivision with one vertex per edge that admits an acyclic 3-colori...
متن کاملAn Efficient Algorithm for Edge-Coloring Series-Parallel Multigraphs
Many combinatorial problems can be efficiently solved for series-parallel graphs or partial k-trees. The edge-coloring problem is one of a few combinatorial problems for which no efficient algorithms have been obtained for series-parallel multigraphs. This paper gives an algorithm which optimally edge-colors a given series-parallel multigraph in time O([V[z~), where V is the set of vertices and...
متن کاملColoring Algorithms on Subcubic Graphs
We present efficient algorithms for three coloring problems on subcubic graphs. (A subcubic graph has maximum degree at most three.) The first algorithm is for 4-edge coloring, or more generally, 4-list-edge coloring. Our algorithm runs in linear time, and appears to be simpler than previous ones. The second algorithm is the first randomized EREW PRAM algorithm for the same problem. It uses O(n...
